Dorchester Community Park

Dorchester Community Park surrounds the Flight Exec Centre and is one of the outdoor recreation hubs in Dorchester. It was the original site of the Dorchester fairgrounds. The park boasts 2 playgrounds, with two other playgrounds located on the River Heights Public School grounds, a pavilion with washrooms, a gazebo, 2 lit baseball diamonds, 2 unlit baseball diamonds, a pickleball court, and a soccer field. The community tennis courts, skate park, pool, wading pool, and splash pad are all located in the park as well.

Early in 2022, the Municipality of Thames Centre was successful in obtaining a grant through the Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF) - Youth Innovation Component totalling $8845. Jesse Farquharson, the Youth Accessibility Leader, applied for the grant and was supported through the Thames Centre Accessibility and Inclusivity Committee. This grant will allow the municipality to install “Blind Square” Bluetooth-enabled GPS speakers to make the Dorchester Community Park more accessible for those with low/no vision! These beacons are Bluetooth-enabled speakers with information, that allows someone with low/no vision to open their Blind Square app and hear the information aloud (ie. how to get to the park features, find the washrooms, etc) so they can navigate the park independently.
